NSF Dahlgren is located in rural King George County, VA, approximately 55 miles south of Washington D.C. Fredericksburg, VA is approximately 26 miles west of Dahlgren.  The greater Fredericksburg regions includes the City of Fredericksburg, King George, Stafford, Spotsylvania and Caroline Counties.  Waldorf, MD is in Charles County and is located 26 miles northeast of Dahlgren.

The School Liaison Officer (SLO) works to connect commanders, educators and parents. They serve as the subject matter experts for K-12 education issues. The SLO's primary function is to provide transition support to DoD-eligible families with school-age children to ensure smooth transitions between schools and positive educational experiences. The SLO can provide numerous resources to assist families, educators and commands in their efforts to create positive and supportive educational environments for military children.

Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP) consist of four basic types of care: Child Development Centers (CDCs), Child Development Homes (CDHs), School-age Care (SAC) and Youth and Teen Programs. CYP staff have received extensive training for childcare and are required to maintain continuing education to ensure the most up to date childcare can be provided.  All child care programs are open to Active Duty Service members, DoD civilians and contractors. The Navy and Liberty Military Housing, as a public/private partnership, provide on-base housing for military families. Caffee House
Incoming families are eligible to stay at the Caffee House, temporary lodging, up to 30 days with PCS orders. It is located in the center of base close to several services such as the NEX, Commissary, library, pool and movie theater. Pets, with the exception of service dogs, are not authorized in the guest rooms.

Certificate of Non-Availability
If there is lodging available at Navy Lodge or Navy Gateway Inns and Suites, personnel on PCS and TDY orders must obtain a Certificate of Non-Availability (CNA) in order to be reimbursed for off-base lodging. CNAs for PCS orders will be issued by the Navy Lodge and CNAs for TDY orders will be issued by Navy Gateway Inns and Suites. CNAs must be issued before your arrival date.

Residents of Lincoln Military Housingmust comply with state and local laws governing pet ownership, including laws regarding licensing and vaccinations.  The limit is a two pet maximum (dogs and/or cats) per household.  Residents may not keep the following dog breeds in or on the premises:  Chows, Dobeman Pinschers, Presa Canarios, Pit Bulls (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Stafford Bull Terrier), Rottweilers, any wolf hybrid, or any mix of the aforementioned breeds (each a "prohibited dog").
