Recreation Specialist (Theater/Special Events)

The mission of the Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) Programs team is to maximize the physical, emotional and social development of the Navy family. FFR enables a ready Navy force through its Fleet Readiness, Family Readiness and Housing Programs. We service all non-appropriated fund (NAF) employees who work for Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS) and Bachelor Housing (BH) throughout the Fleet and Family Readiness Program for the Naval District Washington (NDW) Region.

Duties

As Special Events Recreation Assistant:  Assists the Recreation Director in planning and oversees all special events, while taking direction from the Rec Director.  Assigned to one or more specialized recreational activities at a time.  Carries out assigned phases of designated activity applying an understanding of the interest and needs of program participants.  Typical assignments may include:  applying rules and regulations, assisting in the supervision of participants, volunteers and recreation aides while providing work for all special events and setting up equipment.  Assist in planning, scheduling and publicizing various activities to attract and motivate participants.  Responsible for the safeguarding of all funds, including all Non-Appropriated (NAF) resources, funds, personnel, facilities, supplies and equipment.  Maintains a safe operating environment.

As Movie Theater Manager:  Coordinates the supervision and operation of the theater for NSA South Potomac.  Ensures movies are procured from the Navy Motion Picture Service (NMPS) depot and prepared for showing by the recreation aides.  Responsible for ordering food items and candy for the concession area at the theater.  Conducts monthly inventory to maintain accountability and reports the results to the regional accounting office.  Supervises Recreation aides.  Verifies change fund, resale inventory and DARS are completed properly, and proper procedures are followed in nightly deposit of funds.  Provides work schedules, oversight and daily work assignments. Maintains records and ensures all staff has successfully received their food handler certifications.  Prepares preliminary budget for management review.

Qualifications

Experience in developing and implementing a variety of special events and/or activities is required.  Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to management, staff and patrons.  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Experience in taking inventory counts as well as placing orders for goods and services for a facility is required.  Must be able to multitask effectively.  This position requires working days, evenings and weekends.

Ability to satisfactorily complete background investigation - National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI), upon hiring and renew every 5 years.
